Here’s what our CEO Stuart had to say on LinkedIn whilst reminiscing about his franchise anniversary.
“Last week marked my 5-year anniversary – 5 years ago, I started my own franchising journey with ComputerXplorers Southampton. I’ve been really reflecting lately and I can’t quite believe everything those 5 years have contained.
At the time, I’d had enough of working in the corporate world. We had two boys, and my life revolved around early mornings and late nights. I was leaving the house at 7am and coming back after they’d already gone to bed. My wife was working shifts, and we were like ships passing in the night.
I was missing out on family life. Even on my days off, work would find a way to creep in, and I realised there was no balance – it felt like it was all give, no take. Something had to change.
So I took the jump. Don’t get me wrong, my wife, Gemma, had her apprehensions. But she could also see the detrimental effect my job was having on me, our boys, our marriage, and our life.
As manic as the journey has been, with all its ups and downs, I wouldn’t change a thing. I am so much happier now, and we are so much happier now.
There have been highs, lows, mistakes made, lessons learnt, and incredible people I’ve met along the way (and, let’s be honest, a few not-so-great ones too). My knowledge has grown beyond anything I could have imagined.
In 2021, that leap turned into something bigger than I ever expected. I acquired ComputerXplorers. It was a surreal moment – stepping from being a franchisee to leading the brand. From there, the Xplorer Group was born, and our journey continues to evolve.
This year, in 2024, we took another huge step forward by acquiring Kall Kwik, a renowned leader in design and print services.
These milestones weren’t part of the original plan – they grew out of a passion to do more, to create opportunities, and to help others. It’s been challenging, rewarding, and often unpredictable, but it’s proof that taking the leap can lead to incredible places.
Franchising has given me the chance to take control of my life, to be there for my family, and to build something I’m genuinely proud of, and hopefully pass on.
To anyone considering taking that leap – whether it’s starting a franchise, changing careers, or stepping out of your comfort zone – just remember: no journey worth taking is ever easy, but the rewards can be life-changing.
Here’s to the next 5 years and beyond!
